KUALA LUMPUR: Book vouchers given out under the present 1Malaysia Book Voucher initiative will be replaced with debit cards, pre-loaded with RM250.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said as part of efforts to boost the higher education sector, 20 public universities would benefit from a RM7.4 billion allocation set aside under the 2017 Budget.
This, he said was to ensure that the country’s higher education sector stood at par with those of global standards.
"Of this amount, RM1.4 billion will be allocated to four university hospitals. RM300 million will be allocated to empower five research universities.
"RM100 million will be allocated to higher education institutions, to promote the research culture as well as increase publications and intellectual properties," he said.
