Adenan promises coastal road to connect all villages in rural Sarawak

BINTULU: Sarawak is embarking on a plan to construct a coastal road which will connect all the villages in the rural areas with the main cities across the state, said its Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

He said the project is expected to positively impact people living in rural areas and intensify the state's effort to develop the areas.

Adenan said his deputy, Tan Sri James Masing and state's Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh will be heading to China to work on the proposal for the project.

Speaking at the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) here, Adenan said the state is also looking at funding the project, without depending too much on the federal government.

"The state government will use the state reserve, about RM1 billion to build and upgrade the infrastructures for the rural folks," he said.

"I am tired and fed up of asking for funds from the federal government to help our rural community. They (federal) always say they don't have enough money.

"But, I know it's true based on the current economy situation." he added.
