Guan Eng accuses government of abusing power in blacklisting companies which support Bersih

KUALA LUMPUR: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today accused the government of abuse of power in its handling of the upcoming Bersih 5 rally.

Lim, who is also Bagan Member of Parliament, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan has gone “overboard” in threatening to blacklist companies which had supported illegal assemblies.

“He is abusing his power. You cannot take whatever action you want against whomever you please,” Lim told reporters at the Parliament lobby here today.

Lim was commenting on a recent statement by Rahman that the latter would instruct the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and the Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS) to review the backgrounds of these companies.

Rahman had said that the EPU and UKAS would no longer be working with companies which had provided financial support for organisers of the illegal assemblies.
