Johor hospital blaze: One of deceased had undergone brain surgery two days ago

JOHOR BARU: Two days ago, Yusof Hasan, 51, underwent brain surgery at the Hospital Sultanah Aminah.

However, before he could recover fully and while he was in the ICU, he became one of the six people killed in a fire at the hospital today.

His relative, On Mahat, 60, said he heard news of the fire at 8.30am today.

"I knew that Yusof was one of those warded here, so I immediately rushed here to check.

"Unfortunately, I saw Yusof's name on the list of those who perished," said On.

On said although he was sad to learn of Yusof's demise, he said it is was God's will.

Yusof, he said, was unmarried and suffered from mild disabilities.

"He earned a living tending to a small (kebun) farm," he said.

Yusof and all the other Muslim victim will be brought to the Kg Separap Muslim cemetery for burial after the post-mortem.

"The Muslim victims will be bathed before we bring them to the burial site," said Johor Religious Council advisor (MAINJ), Datuk Nooh Gadot, who added that all families of deceased including other three Chinese and an Indian family will receive RM500 each.

Nooh Giadot earlier gave food land drinks to the other patients.

"We pray for all those who survived the ordeal a speedy recovery and offer prayers for the deceased," he added.
