JOHOR BARU: Patients and staff were evacuated from the Sultanah Aminah Hospital main building after smoke was spotted at the operation theatre at 1.35pm today.
The incident occurred just a day after a huge fire tore through the hospital's intensive care unit and killed six patients.
The operation theatre (OT) is located on the first floor of the building, while the ICU is on the second floor.
A fire and rescue department truck arrived minutes later and personnel assessed the damage. People were barred from entering the building after that.
Patients on stretchers were seen wheeled out of the building by nurses and staff similar to scenes that occured in yesterday's fire.
A volunteer who was on the first floor, said he saw smoke and heard the fire alarm go off.
"Everyone was told to evacuate," said the man who wanted to be known as Ng.
A staff member said there were no surgeries going on at the OT today as all procedures were yesterday ordered to be carried out at other hospitals.
"The staff were there to clean up and tend to certain matters," he said.
