Water in electrical socket led to scare at Sultanah Aminah Hospital today, say police

JOHOR BARU: Water seeping into an electrical socket caused sparks at the under-renovation operation theatre at Sultanah Aminah Hospital, here at 1.40pm today.

Johor Baru Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulaiman Salleh no one was injured in the incident, which occured a day after a fire killed six patients at the intensive care unit.

"Water seeped into a socket and caused sparks at the operation theatre on the first floor.

"The water came from the floor above as cleaning works were being conducted," said Sulaiman.

He said as a precaution, the main building of the HSA would be off-limits for 24 hours.

Patients and staff were evacuated from the main building after smoke was seen at the operation theatre and the fire alarm went off.

The operation theatre (OT) is located on the first floor of the building, while the ICU is on the second floor.

A fire and rescue department truck arrived minutes later and personnel assessed the damage. People were barred from entering the building after that.

Patients on stretchers were seen being wheeled out by nurses and staff, similar to the panic that happened in yesterday's fire.
