Victims of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital fire will be compensated, says Johor MB

JOHOR BARU: Families of the six patients who lost their lives in the Sultanah Aminah Hospital fire will be compensated, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, announced today.

Khaled said the state government will compensate the families of the victims who perished in the blaze with a humble sum of RM2,000 each.

He said RM5,000 will be given to each surviving victims who were severely injured and RM3,000 to those who suffered mild injuries during the fire.

“A consensus was reached during the State Exco meeting today where monetary compensations will be disbursed to the surviving victims and the next of kin of the deceased,” he said.

Khaled added that although the compensation amount allocated was not excessively huge, he believed that there will be others who will come forward to help lessen the hardship of those who have been affected by the fire.

He also said the state government will provide financial assistance for funeral and burial cost of the victims and have asked the state Unity and Human Resource Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan to look into it.
