2017 Budget: RAs believe security and neighbourhood maintenance allocation can aid communities

KUALA LUMPUR: Residents associations (RAs) believe that the RM10,000 grants for security equipment and neighbourhood maintenance announced in the 2017 Budget would go a long way towards easing the burden on communities.

Medan Damansara Residents Association president Jalbir Singh Riar said the grant would come in handy in the upkeep of security for neighbourhoods.

He hoped that the government could provide more specific instructions on the application for the grant.

Bangsar Bukit Bandaraya Residents Association chairman Datuk M. Ali said the grant would help communities with guarded neighbourhoods.

However, Ali said, there must be clarity on the procedure for disbursement as RAs must not be given the runaround.

Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) Residents Association chairman Hafiz Abu Bakar said his RA has been receiving grants similar to this from the local council in recent years.

He hoped the government would allocate the grant according to the size of the community.

“Our township covers a very big area and it is a tremendous challenge to equip the entire area with security equipment with such a budget,” he said.
