Govt ensuring disabled M'sians have adequate, affordable insurance options

KUALA LUMPUR: Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said the government is continuously ensuring that health coverage options are available for people with disabilities.

She said the government has been working with Bank Negara Malaysia to come up with an insurance plan to meet the unique and specific requirements of disabled people.

“Following the collaboration, Allianz Malaysia Bhd, in June 2015, came up with the Allianz Ability Life plan, which is a yearly-renewable life insurance.

"It comes with affordable premium rates, from as low as RM50 for sum insured of RM25,000 and RM70 for sum insured of RM50,000.

"It is open to people with disabilities between 16 and 70 years old,” said Rohani in a Parliamentary reply to Datuk Ahmad Nazlan Idris (BN-Jerantut) during the Minister's Question Time (MQT) today.

Nazlan had asked about steps being taken by the government to ensure that the disabled can purchase insurance at affordable rates that cover all their needs.

Rohani said the government will continue to hold discussions with insurance companies to explore other insurance products for the disabled, such as endowment plans which can help them build up their savings.
