Police: Over 2,000 computers modified into gambling machines destroyed

KUALA LUMPUR: Police destroyed RM3.5 million worth of computer units which had been modified into gambling machines seized during operations in Dang Wangi district.

Dang Wangi police chief assistant commissioner Zainol Samah said police had obtained a court order to destroy the 2,140 units of gambling machines which were confiscated in 'Ops Dadu' between 2010 and 2015.

"The machines were disposed of following a directive from the Jalan Duta magistrate's court after the owners of the illegal machines were charged in court and punishment was meted out," he told reporters.

A total of 171 successful raids were carried out during the period, and 350 people were arrested during the operations.

As many as 130 charges were made in court, while 41 cases were classified as 'no further action' by deputy public prosecutors.
