Authorities seize over 3 tonnes of cooking oil from abandoned home

MUAR: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry seized 3,585kg of cooking oil valued at RM9,708 at a vacant house in Rawang, Tangkak on Wednesday.

The ministry's Muar branch chief, Nor Azmi Lamisza, said the 3.30pm operation was conducted by 15 officers and personnel who acted based on information from the public.

The team found 146 boxes, filled with bottles or packets of cooking oil amounting to 2,920kg, while another 45 boxes contained 765kg.

"The house was empty during the raid. It is believed to have been used as a place to store the items for the past several days, where it avoided detection by authorities.

"No one has admitted to being responsible and we are now trying to trace suspects," he said.

Nor Azmi said the case is being investigated under Section 15 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for concealment of controlled items, and Section 20(1) of the same act for removing controlled items from licenced premises.
