KUALA LUMPUR: The new passenger service charge (PSC) is set to be announced by the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) any time soon.
It is understood that the new PSC structure will see RM11 fixed for domestic flights, RM35 for Asean destinations, and RM73 and RM50 for international destinations via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2), respectively.
The current charges at KLIA are RM65 for international destinations and RM9 for domestic travel. At klia2, the charges are RM32 and RM6 for international and domestic destinations, respectively.
Business Times has learnt that the aviation regulator has called for a meeting today with aviation analysts to discuss the matter.
It is also believed that an internal meeting will be held before any decision is reached.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA), Malaysia Airlines Bhd and 51 other foreign carriers are calling for a standardised PSC at the KLIA and klia2.
The only airline that is not in favour of it is AirAsia Bhd.
