No Malaysian citizenship for more than 290,000 children born here

KUALA LUMPUR: There are 290,437 Malaysian-born children who do not have Malaysian citizenships, the Parliament was told today.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this in a written reply to N.Surendran (Padang Serai-PKR).

Surendran had asked for the number of children between the age of 1 and 18, who were born in Malaysia, but did not hold a Malaysian citizenship.

Zahid, who is also Home Minister, said children of Indonesian parents were the highest in number, followed by the Philippines and Myanmar.

“The information on the foreigners is not recorded according to the race of the parents but by their country of origins,” he said.
