KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian squash queen and world number three player, Datuk Nicol David continued her scintillating performance by advancing to the semifinals of the Wadi Degla Open Squash Championship held in Cairo, Egypt late Tuesday (early Wednesday Malaysia time).

The Penangite who is also the top seed in the tournament, however, had to go the distance before defeating fifth seed, Nour El Tayeb of Egypt, winning 6-11, 12-10, 11-8 and 11-8 in the quarterfinals match held at Wadi Degla Club which lasted about an hour.

Speaking afterwards, Nicol said she was happy with the result, adding that she just stay composed throughout the entire match to beat the young Egyptian.

“My consistency paid off today and I needed to stay in there and work as hard as I could because you don’t want to be staying in there too long. I’m just pleased to win 3-1,” she was quoted as saying in the tournament website.

Nicol will meet her nemesis Egyptian Raneem El Welily in the semifinals on Friday after the third seeded player edged eighth seed, Donna Urquhart of Australia, 14-12, 7-11, 11-3 and 11-9 in another quarterfinals match.--BERNAMA
