EDIT: The collapsed construction machinery was earlier described as a crane. The authorities have since confirmed it to be a piling rig

KLANG: Two people were killed when a piece of construction machinery at a construction site in Jalan Astana, Meru collapsed and fell onto a passing car this afternoon.

The 12.30pm incident saw both victims -- a man and woman -- killed on the spot due to serious head injuries. They were identified as Abd Rahim Abd Rahman, 61, and an Indonesian woman, Nurhayati, 56.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Mohd Sani Harul said the victims were pronounced dead by a team of paramedics.

The top half of the Perodua Axia was totally crushed due to the impact of the crash.

He said the department were alerted to the incident at 12.35pm and dispatched a team of seven firemen from Sungai Pinang fire station to the scene.

It is learnt that the victims' bodies were sent to the Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here. Details on what led to the rig collapsing have yet to be ascertained.
The incident echoes that of Aug 25, when a crane hook at a construction site fell on a Perodua Kelisa at Jalan Raja Chulan during the evening rush hour. The victim, Chin Khoon Sing, 24, from George Town, Penang, died on the spot.
