China visit achieved tangible results, says PM Najib

BEIJING, China: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said his official visit to China has not only strengthened bilateral, political and diplomatic ties, but also achieved tangible results.

This can be seen from the 14 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements signed between businesses worth a total of 232 billion RMB or RM143 billion, a total of 16 government-to-government agreements, and engagement with 33 captains of industry who all expressed their desire to expand investments in Malaysia.

“The success in business is not only measured by MoUs and agreements, but also iconic and mega projects that have a big socio-economic impact. Among them is the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) which will be a catalyst to transform the East Coast states,” Najib said at a press conference with Malaysian media here tonight.

The prime minister arrived here on Oct 31 with a strong delegation of ministers, chief ministers from three states, and corporate sector leaders.

“This visit also was not focused purely on the ‘big boys’ alone. In everything we do, we also give attention to the masses. For example, in my discussions with President Xi Jinping yesterday, he committed to buy more palm oil from Malaysia.

“This is very good news because 500,000 smallholders depend on palm oil as their main source of income,” Najib added.
