(Football) FAM to hold elections on March 25th; Police withdraw complaint against JDT

PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM)’s congress-cum-election will be held on March 25.

The national body finalised the election date at their executive committee meeting at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya on Monday.

The deadline for nominations is Jan 23, and the final list of candidates will be finalised on Feb 20, for president, two deputy presidents, four vice-presidents and exco members.

"A total of 39 delegates from 20 affiliates will be involved in the voting process," said FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah today.

"The affiliates are free to nominate anyone as long they are Malaysians."

On the contents of a pen drive which allegedly has information on corruption in the sport, Afandi said the association's integrity committee verified the report from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and their findings were mainly on technical issues.

The pen drive from Darul Ta'zim (JDT) owner, Tuanku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, was handed over by Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin to the MACC in Sept.

Afandi also confirmed that Police have withdrawn their complaint to FAM on Darul Ta'zim, which used a suspended player against them in August. Darul Ta'zim won 4-0.

"Our disciplinary board has decided not to pursue the matter, as Police withdrew their protest," said Afandi.
