MCA Youth divisional heads to be automatically appointed central delegates

CYBERJAYA: The proposal to have MCA Youth divisional chiefs automatically appointed as central delegates has been endorsed by the party leadership, and its constitution will be amended towards that end.

MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the party Central Committee has unanimously supported the proposal, which is listed in a 15-point resolution made by MCA Youth, presented at its 52nd annual general assembly here today.

In the resolution, MCA Youth urged the party leadership to convene an extraordinary general meeting to pass the new amendment.

"There should not be a problem, as many MCA leaders, including president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and I, (were previously part of the movement) and understand the issue," said Wee after opening the MCA Youth general assembly.

Present was MCA Youth chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon.

Wee also said that MCA is not a racist party, as it has always contested under Barisan Nasional, which consists of 13 political parties representing various ethnic groups.

He said those who accuse the party of racism should understand the history of the coalition, which was established by parties which represented the country’s three main ethnic groups.

Earlier, in his speech, Wee urged MCA members to continue the “good spirit” of generosity and sacrifice which they have inherited from party founders and previous leaders.

He described the “good spirit” as the "spirit of the train", referring to the Korean blockbuster movie Train to Busan, in which some passengers do whatever they can to help others.

"MCA’s struggle is still guided by this ‘spirit of the train’. On issues touching on racial rights, people’s benefits and national interests, MCA will be the first to stand up and the last to leave," he said.
