Serendah landslide victims offered temporary lodgings at PPR apartment

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government plans to temporarily house Taman Idaman residents affected by Saturday’s landslide and sinkhole formation at a low-cost apartment (PPR) in Serendah.

Selangor state exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Settlement Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad said the apartment units need some repair works, and will be ready soon.

"The Selangor state government is offering victims affected by the Serendah landslide (units) at PPR Serendah as temporary shelter.

"However, we need some time to carry out works on the apartment units to ensure that they are fit for occupation by the families.

"This is being taken care of by the state Economic Planning Unit and Perumahan dan Hartanah Selangor Sdn Bhd," he said in a statement received today.

The early Saturday morning landslide, which led to the formation of a large, 7 metre-deep sinkhole, forced the evacuation of over 340 Taman Idaman residents after authorities determined that 64 houses in the residential area were unsafe.

They are currently taking shelter at Sekolah Rendah Agama Serendah.
