Magnitude 5.7 quake strikes Maluku in Indonesia

JAKARTA: Shallow undersea quake with magnitude of 5.7 jolted eastern parts of Indonesia on Wednesday, but no tsunami warning is issued, the meteorology and geophysics agency said, China’s Xinhua news agency reported.

The quake struck at 9.42am local time (0242 GMT) with epicentre at 86 km northeast Maluku and depth at 10km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua by phone.

Indonesia is prone to quake as it lies on a vulnerable quake-hit zone, so called “the Pacific Ring of Fire.” -- BERNAMA
