(Badminton) Chong Wei wants fifth World Super Series crown

KUALA LUMPUR: In just over two-weeks, Lee Chong Wei will be hoping to clinch his fifth World Super Series Finals crown in Dubai.

The 34-year-old shuttler, who has not been in the best of conditions scraped through the final list released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday, qualifying as the seventh best men's singles player.

When met at Juara Stadium on Wednesday, Chong Wei said: "I did not play in the previous two editions, so I hope I can go to Dubai and win my fifth world Super Series title."

Chong Wei, last won the crown back in 2013, before being forced to skip the following two editions due to his eight-month doping suspension in 2014.

Chong Wei, had also won the title for three consecutive years in 2008-2010.

Initial reports had suggested that Chong Wei would not make the trip after pulling out of the recent China and Hong Kong Opens.

Rio Olympic Games gold medallist Chen Long of China, was the other surprise package to make the cut after receiving a wildcard from the BWF for his feat in Brazil.

On who he thinks would be his biggest challenge, Chong Wei added: "I am not concerned with who I meet. Everyone who has qualified are definitely at their best because only the top players make it through.

"I am feeling better and I want to go there and give my best. We still have more than a week of training before leaving, so I am focused on myself."

Malaysia, who had no representative in last year's edition will also challenge for the men's doubles crown through World No 1 Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong.
