Body of Malaysian climber in Iran to be brought home in three to four days

KUALA LUMPUR: The remains of Malaysian climber Syed Redzuan Syed Salim Shatri who died at Mount Damavand, Iran, are expected to be flown home within three or four days.

Expedition leader, Rozaimi Mohd Said said the body of Syed Redzuan, 50, was now in the Iranian capital, Tehran, and had earlier gone through a number of (administrative) processes while placed at the Amol District Hospital, Iran.

“These included obtaining permission from a court judge to transfer the body out of the area. Now there are a few more processes to go through at the Tehran hospital,” he said via WhatsApp from Tehran.

The body of Syed Redzuan was found by a search-and-rescue (SAR) team at the Yakhar Glacier in the mountain area on Monday.

Syed Redzuan and Ramli Abd Majid, 44, were reported missing at the 5,610m-high mountain on Nov 20 after being separated from the other members of the hiking team.

Rozaimi said the SAR operation to locate Ramli could not proceed today because of the weather factor.

“We will hold a meeting with the Iran Red Crescent team that is leading the SAR operation and the embassy representatives and victims’ family members on the incident.

“Despite the unfavourable weather condition, we will continue the SAR operation later with the focus on the northern part (of the mountain),” he said.--BERNAMA
