Sultan of Selangor calls for gov't hospitals to upgrade fire prevention measures

SHAH ALAM: Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has stressed that all government hospitals must ensure their fire prevention measures are upgraded to avoid any untoward incidents.

Sultan Sharafuddin, who officiated the Shah Alam Hospital today, reminded authorities that each hospital should be strictly inspected and thorough checks conducted on all its healthcare equipment and facilities.

This, he said, was to ensure that the lives of patients and medical officers will not be put at risk.

“The government, mainly the Ministry of Health, must ensure any malfunctioning equipment in the hospital replaced as soon as possible,” he said in his speech.

Also present at the launch were Tengku Laksamana Selangor Tengku Sulaiman Shah, Health Minister Datuk Seri S. Subramanian and his wife Datin Seri Dr Umarani, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and his wife Datin Seri Shamsidar Taharin and Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Sultan Sharafuddin said any pending projects involving the public’s welfare, for example, the construction of hospitals must be completed as scheduled.

“Agencies or authorities who are responsible to oversee these projects should monitor (them) meticulously,” said the Sultan.

The royalty said it is pertinent to guarantee that proper and cost-efficient medical treatment is adequate for the public, adding that the rakyat should not be burdened especially when the cost of living is rising.

The Shah Alam Hospital, equipped with 300 beds, was opened to the public on October last year after it was completed in August.
