KL-Singapore High-Speed Rail agreement likely to be inked on Dec 21

PUTRAJAYA:The High-Speed Rail (HSR)’s Bilateral Agreement (BA) between Malaysia and Singapore will be signed as scheduled by the end of the year.

In a statement today, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the signing will most likely take place on Dec 21.

"I met with Singapore's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Khaw Boon Wan, on Nov 29 to discuss the remaining details of the agreement.

"Both sides are now taking the necessary follow-up action to comply with their respective internal procedures and legal requirements for the signing of the Agreement," he said.

The 350km HSR project will link Kuala Lumpur with Singapore, and cut travel time between the two cities to just 90 minutes, as trains will run at a top speed of more than 300kph.

In Singapore, the HSR terminus will be located in Jurong East, while Malaysia will have seven stations, namely Bandar Malaysia, Putrajaya, Seremban, Ayer Keroh, Muar, Batu Pahat and Iskandar Puteri.

Construction for the project is expected to begin in 2018, with trains running in 2026.
