BN components, especially MCA, must help woo Chinese voters

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties should have begun wooing the Chinese voters to ensure that the coalition wrests back the seats it lost due to the swing in Chinese votes.

Pahang Umno deputy liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsuddin said MCA in particular, must identify all Chinese voters in each constituency.

“They must redouble their effort as Umno cannot do this alone.

“In the last general election, we lost many seats, with a large number of those comprising Chinese voters," he said on the sidelines of the Umno General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre today.

Sharkar, who is also Umno supreme council member, said the party has a proven system and can assist MCA in identifying Chinese voters and convince them to support the coalition.

On the atmosphere of the debate at this year's assembly, Sharkar said the speakers were more focused as the party no longer had to deal with the 'thorn in the flesh' issue.

"They have either been expelled or have left Umno. It's a good thing as we can now focus on strengthening our party and gearing up to face the general election," said Sharkar, who is the chairman for the committee on the assembly speakers.
