KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno hopes that the 2050 National Transformation (TN50) programme will open doors for women to elevate their economic status in the country.
The wing's chief, Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, said this is because in today's world, many women have become the breadwinners of their families.
"I hope that the 2017 Budget will empower women's economic capabilities and improve their income.
"In fact, in the drafting of the TN50, I hope that opportunities and the involvement of women, will not be forgotten.
"Investing in women is good economics," she said.
Shahrizat added that "good economics is the best politics", and said that the party must be cognizant of, and address issues which, are close to the people, such as the price of cooking oil, job opportunities for youth, syariah-related issues and drug problems, among others.
