Najib: Felda settlers poised to benefit from Msia-China deals

KUALA LUMPUR: The country's 550,000 Felda settlers will profit from the recent deal struck with China to import more palm oil from Malaysia.

Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak said that in fact, the billions of ringgit worth of deals made during his trip to China will bring more investments in general, and afford greater benefits to all the people.

"After talks with (Chinese) president (Xi Jinping), China (decided) to buy more crude palm oil (from Malaysia). The price of crude palm oil was RM2,300 per tonne, and today, it is RM3,100.

"Who profits from these (investments) if not the 550,000 Felda settlers? I want the price to keep going up. This is the 'feel good' factor," said Najib in his closing speech at the Umno general assembly.

Najib said that no quarter should politicise the deals that were firmed up with China.

"Don't politicise. (Since when do) I pawn the country's sovereignty? I am the Prime Minister of Malaysia. I won't give up our sovereignty.

"President Xi knows - and what's wrong working with China? China is expected to be the biggest economy (by) 2040," he said.
