Talk to Najib about seats 'loaned' to Umno, Khairul Azwan tells MCA

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun today urged the MCA to seek the advice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak regarding its demand for the return of seats the party had “loaned” to Umno in the 13th General Election.

“I would suggest that Liow urgently seek (an) audience with the prime minister, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman, for his wisdom and advice,” he said in a statement today.

Khairul made it clear that Umno valued its comrades in the BN coalition, and that it realised the true opponents were those who tried and segregate Malaysia’s diverse communities.

“Nevertheless, asking for the return of these so-called “loaned seats” is counter productive as the goal should be what is best for a BN victory,” he said.

During a community event on Saturday, Liow was quoted as saying: “Our stand is whatever seats that were loaned out, we will take them back.”

The seats in question are Wangsa Maju, Kuantan and Gelang Patah, which were eventually lost to the opposition.

Liow’s comments came a day after Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said BN component parties were not pulling their weight in ensuring victory for the ruling coalition.

Zahid, who is also the Bagan Datoh MP, reportedly said he has ordered for the Umno state liaison chiefs to communicate with other component parties in order to streamline their machineries ahead of the next polls.
