In search of timber, two men found crushed by fallen tree

KUALA TERENGGANU: Two men who went into jungle at Bukit Layat here in search of timber were found dead underneath a fallen tree this afternoon.

The men were believed to have made their way into the jungle two days ago, when their bodies were spotted by another timber collector at 2pm today. The police were called in immediately.

The deceased have been identified as Mohd Zuki Ismail, 39, and Khairullah Samad, 22.

Police said their bodies were found underneath their makeshift tent, crushed by a huge tree at Bukit Layat.

It was learnt that the duo had entered the jungle on Friday and they would usually stay a few days to look for timber meant for making charcoal.

Their time of death could not be immediately ascertained but the police believed that the two were either asleep at night or taking a nap during the day when the tree fell on them.

It is believed that they died on the spot.

District deputy police chief Superintendent Suffian Sulaiman confirmed the incident, adding that the bodies have been sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here for a post-mortem.
