Cemetery-dwelling croc, caught, villagers relieved

KUCHING: A two-meter long crocodile was captured by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) at the Semariang Muslim Cemetery here today.

Five men from the Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) were despatched to the cemetery following a report by the public that they had spotted a crocodile in the area.

“Our team managed to capture the crocodile about 9.30am at the lake near the cemetery,” said a SFC spokesman.

“Recently, there were rumours spreading around, where members of the public had reported sightings of the crocodile around the cemetery and the lake.

The spokesperson said the locals were worried about their safety when visiting the graveyard, thus they lodged a report. SFC then sent a team over immediately.

The sub-adult male crocodile had been taken to the Matang Wildlife Centre and we will further monitor it,” he added.
