PIDIE JAYA: Despite being without any electricity for the last three days, the Muslim community in Aceh have remained steadfast and are still making their way en masse to the mosque to perform their 'subuh' prayers.
A quick check by the News Straits Times Press (M) Berhad crew this morning managed to capture the morning activity of the community here, many of whom are farmers and fishermen.
The mosque's loudspeakers may be out of commission due to the devastating earthquake, but the muezzin's call to prayer still rings out clear and true, urging survivors to place their faith in Allah.
The damaged Jami Quba mosque, one of the mosques still standing despite the quake, has become a place of refuge for the locals, who are using even the mosque's compound as shelter from the elements.
It is believed that 49 mosques in the district were destroyed in the earthquake.
