Datuk Sabin replaces Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukor as IRB CEO

PUTRAJAYA: Inland Revenue Board (IRB) deputy chief executive officer (tax operations) Datuk Sabin Samitah has been appointed the new IRB chief executive officer (CEO) effective Monday (Dec 12).

He replaces Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukor Mahfar, whose service ends on Sunday.

Sabin said he received the appointment letter from the Finance Ministry this evening.

Shukor, meanwhile, expressed his appreciation to the government, rakyat and IRB staff and personnel for helping him carry out his duties, especially in increasing the national direct tax collection.

"I hope Malaysians will continue to contribute to the country's development through paying income tax, since it is a 'non-military defence' for the country.

"I also pray that the new CEO will lead IRB and assist the government in realising its agenda and policy in the future," he said after clocking out from the IRB at 5pm, today.

Shukor has worked with the IRB for the past 37 years, since March 12, 1979.

On Jan 8, 2011, the Finance Ministry appointed Shukor as the IRB CEO for a four-year term.

But due to his excellent performance in helping IRB collect taxes amounting to more than RM100 billion, Shukor's contract was extended for one year.

His many achievements include being the Malaysian Statutory Body president; the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators chairman; and receiving the Visionary Veteran Motivator of the Year accolade at the McMillan Woods Global Awards 2016.
