Syabas assures no water distruption on Christmas Day, supply back to normal before Dec 24

KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) today has assured that water supply in the Klang Valley will be fully restored before Dec 24 and not dragged until the Christmas Day.

The water supply company, in a statement, confirmed this and dismissed scores of unverified information circulating on social media related to an earlier report that more than 3.8 million people in the Klang Valley will be affected by a scheduled water disruption on Monday.

“With reference to the water interruption on Dec 19 due to the Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s maintenance works at the Bukit Badong substation, many unofficial Water Supply Schedules and infographics regarding the matter are currently circulating on social media,"

Syabas said that the Water Supply Schedule has been planned from Dec 19 to 24 to address the issue and categorised into two zones.

“We would like to reiterate that the scheduled supply needs to be implemented to speed up full recovery of water supply to all areas, especially areas at the end of the water distribution system and on higher ground which usually takes longer to get to,” the statement said.

It said that the reason for the introduction of the scheduled recovery was to help the company manage the deployment of water tankers effectively according to the designated zones.

Following that, Syabas said it is confident that the water supply restoration process can be accelerated and will be fully restored even before Christmas Eve.

“For Zone 1 areas, water will be supplied beginning from 4pm on Dec 20 and disconnected from 9am on Dec 21 and 22. Water supply will resume beginning from 4pm on Dec 23 and 24.

“For Zone 2 areas, water will be supplied beginning from 4pm on Dec 21 and 22 and disconnected starting from 9am on Dec 23 and 24.”
