Pembina's 'Program Puncak' deemed successful, more short courses to come

ALOR STAR: Pemuafakatan Badan Ilmiah Nasional (Pembina) plans to introduce new courses following the success of its inaugural short course programmes involving 78 youths this year.

Pembina chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said two possible courses that Pembina would introduce are in the Oil and Gas and also Green Technology industries.

Mahdzir who is also Education Minister said the short course programme known as ‘Program Puncak’ was aimed at providing technical and vocational training to help youths with poor academic background to land jobs in the technical field.

“At the moment, the short courses that we (have) introduced are culinary, housekeeping and airport ground handling.

“The youths underwent a three-month course and they were fully sponsored by Pembina,” he told reporters after attending the convocation ceremony of the ‘Program Puncak’ here today.

The Padang Terap parliamentary member said the first batch of 78 youths was selected from the Padang Terap constituency but there are plans to open the programmes for youths from other constituencies nationwide, in the future.
