Driving home a strong message about motorists who litter on roads

AS a consumer advocate, I loved the column by Ashley Greig in “Motorists must stop being litter bugs” (NST, Dec 18).

Sadly, it is common for motorists to litter on roads.

It is wrong to do so. It is bad behaviour. How can you?

There are rubbish bins where litter must go.

We must love the environment, not harm it.

Isn’t it time we love nature and respect it?

We must separate litter and place them in different bags for garbage collectors to take them for recycling.

And we must educate the public before enforcing the law, as some may not know how this is done.

Without respect for nature and its biodiversity, there will be no desire to protect it.

Developing respect means recognising that living things have a right to live on this planet and that we should not harm them.

It is time to renew our bond with nature, and start appreciating the natural world around us.

We must also improve our environmental awareness and knowledge.

We must practise the 3Rs — reduce, reuse and recycle — in that sequence.

The sequence is important as source reduction is usually the best way to minimise wastage.

Recycle by sending waste to be processed as a resource.

We must also save on energy. We should switch to energy-efficient habits and equip our home with gadgets that save energy.
