KOTA KINABALU: Mobile telecommunication operator Maxis Bhd had expanded its 4G network covering 88 per cent of the country this year.

In Sabah, Maxis is committed to reach out to the unreachable places in the state’s interior.

Its Sabah region head Ng Chak Khin said said for now the 4G network expansion covered all key towns in Sabah including Kudat, Kota Marudu and Kalabakan.

“The 4G network also covers some rural and remote places such as Semporna, Sipitang, Beaufort and Sook.

“Meanwhile, 3G network is available almost everywhere in Sabah,” he said during a media luncheon, adding that the network at Paitan, Pitas and some part of Tongod have been upgraded to 3G from 2G.

Ng said Maxis hoped to upgrade the network in Nabawan to at least 3G next year.

Paitan, Pitas, Tongod and Nabawan are located at the interior of Sabah and very difficult to access by road.

He added that Maxis was not only continuously improving the coverage but also enhancing the services," he added.

On customers' experience, he said there had been modernisation of its outlets in Sabah and Labuan.

Maxis also gives bigger data for its prepaid users to surf Facebook and more data for postpaid users.

"While many telcos are giving more data on their plans, consumers should know how much data they normally use for their budget planning."
