Airbus' door tightened, MAS' flight MH1 now cleared for take-off

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH1 from London to Kuala Lumpur which earlier experienced a technical defect with one of its doors has now been cleared for take-off.

The Airbus 380-800 aircraft has departed London Heathrow Airport.

MAS in a statement today said the defect was repaired at London Heathrow with consultation from Airbus and the licensing authorities.

"A panel in the door was tightened and the aircraft defect was cleared for take-off. Safety remains Malaysia Airlines' number one priority.

"MH1 is serviced daily and Malaysia Airlines will work closely with the manufacturer to isolate the root cause of the issue," the airline said.

Alternative arrangements were being made for passengers connecting in Kuala Lumpur with other airlines to ensure that they get to their destinations as soon as possible.

MAS said passengers were given constant updates and refreshments while the aircraft was in London Heathrow.

"MAS would like to apologise for the delay of the flight.

"We would like to thank BA Engineering, Airbus, Heathrow Airport, UK Border and Immigration, Malaysia Department of Civil Aviation, ground handler Azzura and our own MAS staff for their prompt assistance in ensuring the flight operated despite the difficulties." the statement said.

It was reported that the aircraft, while flying over Germany on Wednesday, circled back and returned to London after noise and vibration was detected coming from the door.
