SUNGAI SIPUT: About 67,000 chicks were killed in a fire that destroyed a chicken barn at Kampung Sungai Bendang, here last night.
Sungai Siput fire station chief Saiful Rizan Sulaiman said the department was alerted to the fire at 8.48pm and 17 firefighters from the Sungai Siput and Kuala Kangsar fire stations were deployed to the scene.
“When we arrived, the fire has destroyed about 96 per cent of the chicken barn. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in the 8.30pm incident,” he said.
Saiful Rizan said that the firefighters had to use water from a pond near the chicken barn to put out the fire.
He said the fire was completely extinguished at about 2.27am.
Saiful Rizan said according to the barn owner, he just bought the chicks and placed them in there about two days ago.
He added that the cause of fire and losses incurred were still under investigation.
