Remains of Johorean who drowned in Australia laid to rest

JOHOR BARU: The remains of Muhammad Farhan Na'imullah Zubir, the Johorean fruit picker who drowned in a river in Victoria, Australia two weeks ago, was laid to rest at the Bukit Aliff Muslim Cemetery here at 7.50pm tonight.

Farhan's remains earlier arrived at his family's home in Jalan Bilal Mahmud, near Jalan Abdul Samad in Kampung Baru here.

Family members, including his father Zubir Ahmad later joined a congregation at the house to perform the solat jenazah (funeral prayers) before proceeding to the cemetery after Magrib prayers. About 70 people attended the funeral.

Farhan's aunt Zariah Ahmad, 46, thanked everybody who helped in the efforts to bring Farhan's remains home.

"We would also like to thank the media for highlighting the matter," she said after the burial.

Farhan's remains had arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) cargo complex via at 11.55am today.

The second of seven siblings, Farhan drowned when he was swimming in the Ovens River near Myrtleford, Victoria, about 274km northeast of Melbourne on Dec 13.
