SK Ampang's Year Six students bury noses in NST's School Times supplement

AMPANG: SK Ampang Year Six pupils can boost their mastery of the English language before their Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) through the New Straits Times’ School Times pull-out.

Expressing optimism, English teacher Mohd Rosmainie Mohd Aspar, 38, said the content of School Times is rich and engaging, and is filled not only with general news, but entertainment stories as well.

“With the mixture of stories, I’m sure pupils will be (keen) to grab a copy and read more.

“I will also use the pull-out as part of my English lessons to help them better (develop their) vocabulary and grammar,” he said after a presentation from the NST Education Desk early today.

The NST Education Desk held a presentation at SK Ampang’s school hall to teachers and Year Six pupils on the new-and-improved pull-out after distributing about 200 copies to them.

Meanwhile, headmistress Rosminah Embi said she will propose to Year Six parents at the next parent-teacher meeting to include School Times in their excellence programme and extra classes.

Rosminah said she believes the pull-out will encourage pupils to use English as part of their daily communications and improve their overall command of the language.

School Times contains a wide selection of news and brain teasers (such as quizzes and puzzles), and is published as a 12-page pull-out supplement every Tuesday in the NST.
