Number of flood victims in Terengganu rise

KUALA TERENGGANU: The number of people seeking shelter in four districts in Terengganu due to floods rose to 1,237 victims from 316 families tonight, compared to 1,108 victims from 283 families earlier today.

The state flood watch portal http://etindakan.terengganu.gov.my/ reported that as of 11.15pm, SK Pasir Putih is the sole relief centre still open in Marang, catering to 39 victims from 13 families from the Kampung Pasir Putih area.

In the worst-hit district of Kuala Terengganu, the number of victims increased to 955 from 235 families, compared to 826 victims from 202 families seeking shelter at three relief centres.

In Dungun, the number of flood victims decreased to 216 victims from 63 families compared to 265 people from 75 families, all housed at three relief centres before.

In Setiu, 27 victims from five families are still staying at Surau Kampung Nyatoh.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is scheduled to visit the affected flood relief centres in the state tomorrow.

In his visit, Najib is expected to visit victims being housed at SK Banggol Peradong in Kuala Terengganu and SK Bukit Guntong in Kuala Nerus.
