BMW Group Malaysia breaks sales record

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW delivered a record 10,906 units of BMW and MINI cars, as well as BMW motorcycles last year, registering an all time high for the German manufacturer in Malaysia.

Deliveries in 2016 ramped up by 16 per cent compared to the same period the preceding year.

A total of 9,000 BMW cars were delivered to Malaysian owners, along with 902 MINI cars and 1,004 BMW motorcycles.

“The continued and growing support from our customers and network of dealerships here were the main factors for our best achievements in 2016. On behalf of BMW Group Malaysia, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our customers and dealers here for helping us achieve this milestone in an especially challenging year,” said Han Sang Yun, managing director and CEO of BMW Group Malaysia.

The growth is reflective of BMW's growth worldwide. The BMW Group achieved its best ever sales in 2016 with a total of 2,367,603 vehicles sold worldwide.

Last year, BMW introduced the new 7-series, as well as the new locally assembled BMW X5 xDrive40e and BMW 330e, part of the automaker’s BMW iPerformance portfolio.

BMW says the demand for both of these high technology plug-in hybrids has soared and it is gearing up to produce more units in 2017 to meet the demand.

BMW Group Malaysia also said that it strengthened its partnership with Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia) to offer its BMW i and BMW iPerformance customers access to ChargeNow services on GreenTech Malaysia’s ChargEV platform.

Other models that spurred growth in 2016 include the new locally-assembled variants of the BMW X1 and BMW X4, the new BMW M2 Coupé and a new special variant of the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 528i M Performance Edition.
