He was cheerful, jovial as always prior to his passing, says Abang Johari on Adenan

PETRA JAYA: Sarawak has lost a great leader following the demise of Tan Sri Adenan Satem, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg.

Abang Johari, speaking at a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia to officially announce Adenan's passing, said Adenan, who was Sarawak’s fifth chief minister, had contributed massively towards the state’s development and prosperity.

“I am sad to announce this news to you. The chief minister had made numerous contributions to the state," said Abang Johari.

Also present were fellow Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas and state secretary Tan Sri Mohammad Morshidi Abdul Ghani.

Adenan succumbed to heart complications at the Kota Samarahan Heart Centre at 1.24pm today.

Abang Johari said he had met Adenan before the latter was admitted to the centre on Sunday.

“He was cheerful and jovial as always,” recalled Abang Johari.

He declined to comment when asked on who will serve as acting chief minister following Adenan’s passing.

“Let us focus on giving a proper farewell to our leader first. He has done so much for the state,” said Abang Johari.
