Farewell: Sarawak CM Adenan laid to rest

PETRA JAYA: Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem was laid to rest at Samariang Muslim Cemetery here at 2.40pm today.

The casket arrived at the cemetery at 2.05pm, accompanied by his wife Puan Sri Jamilah Anu and his children.

Twenty-seven pallbearers from the Malaysian Armed Forces and Royal Malaysian Police carried the casket in stages to the burial ground.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib were present to pay their last respects to Adenan.

About 2,000 Sarawakians from all walks of life attended the funeral ceremony.

A sombre mood filled the air and many were seen in tears as the casket was lowered into the ground.

Earlier, the final prayer was carried out for Adenan in Masjid Jamek here.

Adenan, the fifth chief minister of Sarawak, succumbed to heart complications four days after being admitted to the Kota Samarahan Heart Centre here yesterday.

He would have turned 73 on Jan 27.

He leaves behind his wife, Puan Sri Jamilah Anu, and five children, including three from a previous marriage.
