Congratulatory messages pour in for sixth CM of Sarawak

PUTRAJAYA: MIC president Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam today congratulated Datuk Abang Johari Openg as the new Chief Minister of Sarawak chief minister.

Subramaniam said he hopes Abang Johari will continue to lead policy changes ensuring that the state’s administration will run efficiently.

“His views and principles in various important issues have helped us in the Peninsular to determine the policies,” Subramaniam said in a statement.

Subramaniam, who is also the Health Minister, said he would support the leadership of the new Sarawak chief minister and hoped the Barisan Nasional government will continue to succeed.

In Jitra, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah also sent out his congratulatory message to Abang Johari Openg.

Ahmad Bashah said as a senior leader in Sarawak who had served under two chief ministers, Abang Johari is the most suitable candidate to continue on with the legacy of Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud and the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem in developing Sarawak.

“I have full confidence in Abang Johari to continue with the vision set by his predecessors in taking Sarawak to greater heights.

“As a senior leader in Sarawak, Abang Johari will be able to deliver and fulfil the aspirations of the people of Sarawak,” he told a press conference after unveiling the state’s ‘Helang Merah’ squad for the 2017 season.

In Johor Baru, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin Abang Johari on his appointment too. Khaled said he was confident that Abang Johari will continue with the legacy of good work left behind by the late Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

“On behalf of the Johor government and its people, I congratulate Datuk Abang Johari Openg on being appointed as the sixth Sarawak Chief Minister.

“I am confident he will continue the good efforts of the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem to make sure Sarawak continues to enjoy peace and progress.

“May the Land of the Hornbills develop further and grow under the leadership of the new Chief Minister,” said Khaled in a statement here today.

Abang Johari, 66, took his oath of office before the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud at the Astana Negeri, Kuching, today. The Satok assemblyman is Sarawak’s sixth chief minister.
