APM officer's widow to use Socso payments for sons' education

Anisha said she will set aside the pension money for their future, while her salary will be used for other family expenses.

"The unexpected contribution from Socso is very meaningful for the three of us now that my husband has passed away," she said at her house in Kampung Mia here.

Mohd Sawal died shortly after completing a search and rescue operation for a missing man near Sungai Lut, Felda Jerangau Barat in Hulu Terengganu, on Dec 3.

As reported in the New Straits Times recently, Anisha had not been aware that her husband had been making Socso contributions.

The information technology assistant said the money will ease her family’s financial burden.

"My sons Muhammad Akif Irfan, 11, and Muhammad Aqil Isyraf, 6, will have the best education, as was their father's wish," she said.

Last week, Anisha was presented with a cheque from Socso, as benefit payment for her husband's contributions, by Kuala Berang state assemblyman Datuk Tengku Putera Tengku Awang, who visited her house.

Also present were State Socso director Nora Yaacob, State Civil Defence Department director Lt Colonel Che Adam A Rahman and State Socso Customer Service manager Mohd Sabri Ramli.

Mohd Sabri said Anisha is eligible to receive a pension under Socso’s employment injury scheme, amounting to RM676.04 a month.

He added that Socso will also contribute RM1,500 as a funeral management payout.

Meanwhile Datuk Tengku Putera said both employees and employers should be better informed about the importance of Socso contributions.
