Man pleads not guilty to supporting terror group

KUALA LUMPUR: A man pleaded not guilty in the High Court today to two charges of supporting a terrorist group and preventing the arrest of a person having committed a terrorist act.

Mohmad Zaini Mohmad Isa, 32, claimed trial after the two charges were read out to him before Judicial Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Shariff Abu Samah.

He is alleged to have given support to a terrorist group at Telok Gadong Kecil, Jalan Yadi, Klang, Selangor, between March 25 and June 30, 2016.

The charge, under Section 130J (1)(a) of the Penal Code provides for life imprisonment or imprisonment for up to 30 years or a fine, upon conviction.

He is also alleged to have prevented the arrest of one Junios Ondie alias Jahali whom he knew had committed a terrorist act in the undergrowth near the Pulau Indah highway in Klang at 7.15pm on June 29, 2016.

The charge, under Section 130K (a) of the Penal Code provides for imprisonment for life and a fine; or imprisonment for up to 20 years or with a fine.

The court set Feb 20 for mention. DPP Azlina Rasdi appeared for the prosecution while Mohmad Zaini was represented by counsel Azizzul Shariman Mat Yusuff. --BERNAMA
