Flood hits 3 villages in Kota Marudu, one in Beluran

KOTA KINABALU: Three villages in Kota Marudu, about 131 kilometres from here, were inundated with water following continuous rain since 11.30pm last night.

Malaysian Civil Defence Force, Sabah director, Col Muliadi Al-Hamdi Ladin who is also the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat chief said the areas involved were Kampung Longob, Kampung Beliajung and Kampung Bengkongan.

He said the water reading for the two rivers along the areas, Sungau Bongon and Sungai Bandau were at danger and warning level, respectively.

"Sungai Bongon is at 8.3 metres, exceeding the danger level of 7.9m, while Sungai Bandau showed a reading of 6m, at warning level," he said in a statement here today.

He said a relief centre was opened at Dewan Mini Kampung Longob, but as of 8am, no residents had been evacuated.

Five main routes in the area were rendered inaccessible except for heavy vehicles, he said.

Meanwhile in Beluran, about 305 kilometres from here, Kampung Jaya Bakti was inundated following heavy rain since 10pm.
