Penang to get own UTC this year, says Reezal

KEPALA BATAS: Penang has received the green light for its very first Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) which is expected to be operational this year.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the UTC was an upgrade from the existing Mobile Community Transformation Centre (MCTC).

Reezal, who is also Kepala Batas Member of Parliament, said with the UTC, Penangites and those from neighbouring states could enjoy from the numerous services offered.

"The UTC services are offered everyday until 10pm, and is convenient for those who work office hours.

"At the moment, the location for the UTC is being identified and will be announced by the Penang Federal Action Council," he told newsmen at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bertam Perdana here yesterday.

He was present to officiate the MCTC, the first time ever held in his parliamentary constituency, this year.

The MCTC, an initiative to bring government departments and agencies closer to the people, is participated by 72 government departments and agencies and attracted more than 4,000 visitors.

Meanwhile, Reezal said there were 17 UTCs in the country currently which had benefitted more than 41 million users.

"This is in line with the fast delivery system promised to the people." he added.

It was previously reported that thousands of commuters are expected to benefit when the UTC is incorporated into the new Penang Sentral Transport Hub Terminal this year.
