Flooding in northern Sabah, number of evacuees rise

KOTA MARUDU: There are currently 616 flood victims from 192 families in three districts here seeking shelter at seven evacuation centres.

Malaysian Civil Defence Force state director Colonel Muliadi Al-Hamdi Ladin said two of the centres are located here, three in Pitas and another two are in Paitan, Beluran.

“As of 9pm, the water levels for Sungai Bongon and Sungai Bandau have decreased and are below the danger level.

“Meanwhile, Sungai Kebatasan and Sungai Bengkoka in Pitas are still at a dangerous level,” he said in statement, adding that authorities are taking precaution as they have detected that the water level at Sungai Korina in Kudat is inching upwards to the danger line.

Muliadi added that the downpour has yet to stop in the affected districts.
